What to do in the Event of a Tropical Cyclone





Rough Seas Before a cyclone:
  • Fortify fragile parts of the house (i.e., doors, windows, and roof)
  • Ensure no heavy objects block emergency exits
  • Identify the closest safe places and quickest routes to get there
  • Keep important documents (and copies) in a safe place
  • Store necessary medication and first-aid equipment
  • Listen to official news and instructions from the Department of Meteorology

During a cyclone:
  • Close and stay away from all windows and doors
  • Avoid unnecessary phone calls
  • Turn off the electricity
  • Listen to official news and follow instructions

After a cyclone:
  • Beware of ruined cables, power lines, and tree branches
  • Avoid flooded areas in case electricity flows from damaged power lines
  • Wear appropriate footwear
